This heirloom Crocus from 1934 has unusual and striking coloring-the outer petals are soft gray-blue, the inner ones light purple. When the flowers open on warm days in early spring, the contrasting colors create the illusion of bold stripes. Given the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1983.
Crocus vernus are the familiar and welcome "giant" hybrid spring Crocuses. They are companions for very early Daffodils, and are most welcome planted in sweeps beneath and between shrubs in a border or foundation planting.
