Spires of hooded steel-blue blooms on sturdy stems rise from mounds of finely cut gray-green leaves. The flowers offer a cool contrast to hot-colored members of the Daisy clan. Tolerates partial shade, which it requires in warm regions. Deer resistant.
The genus Aconitum includes many stunningly beautiful varieties whose shapely late-summer flowers and handsome, deeply cut foliage can carry a border through the dog days until Chrysanthemums come into flower. Aconitums thrive on good soil and do as well in light shade as in sun. They need reliable moisture during droughty spells and will perish where water stands, but otherwise seem willing to prosper for many years with minimal attention. All parts are very poisonous and should not be planted near vegetables or where children play. For more information on growing and care, click on Growing Guide.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
