In a genus noted for the hype of new introductions, here's a variety deserving of its publicity (which included Hosta of the year in 1999). Plants are of modest size, about 15in, and offer glorious heart-shaped leaves with a deep golden center and a wide edging of blue-green. As the season wears on, the golden self fades to something nearer white gold. In late spring, this spectacular show is topped by 2ft stems bearing light lavender flowers, a rare case of a Hosta whose flowers and foliage are at their peak together.
