Lavandula x intermedia 'Grosso' is one of the most fragrant of Lavenders and is grown for scenting perfumes and aromatherapy oils. With its long spikes of deep violet blossoms, this heavy-blooming variety is ideal for making dried Lavender bundles. As a culinary herb, the savory addition of its flowers bring out the best in meat dishes. It works well with simple boiled Potatoes, too. Combine with our French Thyme, Rosemary 'Arp' and Golden Sage to create a delicious grilling rub. Offered here as one larger plant in a 1gal pot, for gardeners who would like to get a head start on growing a Lavender hedge. We suggest spacing each plant about 24in apart, so use that when calculating how many plants of this size you would need.
Many gardeners grow Lavender for its fragrance, but the genus includes several excellent garden plants that should be more widely used for their midsummer beauty and resistance to deer, heat, and drought. The cool, gray-green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for the slender, arching flower stems. Some varieties are small, others tall, but they all prefer well-drained, sweet soil and full sun. Plant them in masses or as small hedges, and you'll find that they are attractive and useful long after the spent flowers have been clipped off.
