Bushy Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) has fine, heart-shaped leaves with scalloped edges and a sweet citrus scent. Clusters of tiny, white flowers appear in late summer. It's a perfect tea herb to grow for steaming hot mugs or tall cold glasses of natural lemon-scented iced tea. Little sprigs make attractive, edible garnishes for fruit drinks and sherbets. It blends well with other herbs, adds a mild citrus tang to salads, and makes an excellent alternative to Mint.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

A productive member of the Mint family, Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is easy to grow in full sun to partial shade and average to even poor, well-drained soil. Water when the top 1in of soil is dry to the touch. Plants are drought tolerant once established. Be sure to contain your plant, as it tends to spread easily underground and from seed. Use the citrusy leaves in tea, summer drinks, or as a garnish. Hardy in Zones 4-9.
