Most recommended for kitchen use, Greek Oregano (Origanum vulgare ssp hirtum) is a staple in the herb garden. These low-growing, white-flowered plants make attractive 12″ spreading mounds. Once established, they are quite carefree in a well-drained, sunny garden spot. Delicious both fresh and dried, Greek Oregano provides a robust, zesty addition to Greek, Italian and Mexican dishes. The "pizza herb," its hot spicy flavor complements all Tomato dishes and is good with many meats, shellfish, Eggplant, Peppers, and egg dishes. An essential flavoring herb that's easy to dry for use all year round.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

Plant Oregano in a sunny, well-drained spot. For container-grown plants, water when the top 1″ of soil is dry. The pungent leaves are delicious both fresh and dried. Greek Oregano (Origanum vulgare hirtum) needs little care beyond cutting down the stems during fall cleanup. Hardy in Zones 5-9.
Ornamental varieties are valued for their handsome flowers and foliage rather than for culinary use. The showy, aromatic flowers bloom from summer to fall. Plant in full sun in average well-drained soil amended with grit or sand to ensure good drainage. This is particularly important during cold weather, when plants are dormant. Prune back winterkilled stems in spring.
