Highbush Blueberries are beautiful plants, with graceful upright structure and gray-green foliage that turns shades of burgundy or orange in fall. Pearly white flowers appear in spring, leading to a lush crop of the sweet fruit. We've selected varieties for areas of the country where temperatures drop below 45°F for at least five weeks. Plants are hardy and long-lived, asking only for a sunny spot with highly organic, acid soil (pH of 5.5 is ideal, so dig in some peat moss when planting, if you're in doubt) and mulch to retain moisture.
Blueberries require cross-pollination to produce heavily, so we offer three different varieties, one plant of each. 'Earliblue' will start the season with its large, light blue fruit. 'Blueray' is an early midseason variety whose large, powdery blue berries consistently rate high in taste tests. 'Colville', produces very large, deep blue berries that resist cracking and are excellent in desserts. Plants will fruit their second year but won't really hit their stride for another year or two. 3-year-old plants.
