The best tools do the work for you, and this trowel is no exception. The slender 9 1/2in blade is pointed and slightly concave, ideal for a wide variety of garden jobs. Made of 16-gauge stainless steel, it will easily break up hard or stony soil without bending. A favorite bulb planting tool as well, the blade is marked at 1 to 6in (1 to 15cm) intervals as an easy guide for bulb planting depths. The bright red, molded rubber handle is easy to spot wherever you lay it down in the garden, and features comfortable finger grips on the back and non-slip grooves on the front. There's also a generous rawhide loop for easy hanging. 14in long excluding hanging loop; 2 3/4in across greatest width.
HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

I was ambivalent about spending so much money on a trowel, but I was really tired of trowels that bent out of shape when I used them in my hard clay soil, so I took a chance on this one.
I have been very pleased with the performance of this trowel. I have used it now for about 3 years. It has never become misshapen when I dig with it. I have inadvertently left it out in the rain, and it didn't rust at all.
I use it in place of a shovel for planting small perennials, to plant bulb when I have just a few, and to dig up dandelions and other weeds.
The trowel is long enough that you get good leverage from it. So unless I have to plant something large, I can usually use it instead of dragging out my shovel.
