When we found these magnificent, hand-made roosters from China, it looked like a chance to have our favorite fowls closer to home, without the noise and the not infrequent hostilities. We've parked one of the roosters in the center of the kitchen table, another on a shelf by the front door. It takes a second look to realize that these vivid personalities are concocted from dyed straw and ersatz feathers. After a year in our house (with very occasional dusting), they look just as fresh and feisty as the real thing. Each stands about 14 inches tall.
