Combining the best of both worlds, this cross of a Petunia and a Calibrachoa has the Petunia's vigorous, trailing growth and tolerance for hot and cold weather and the Calibrachoa's generous bloom. Right through the summer, this hybrid buries itself in small, rose-purple blossoms with yellow centers. These are easy-care plants that require no deadheading. 'SAKPXC011' PP 24,791

A cross between Petunia and Calibrachoa, Petchoa (pet-ko'uh) is a genus that carries the best characteristics of both parents. This tender perennial, grown as an annual in our neck of the woods, inherits its large flowers and overall vigor from the Petunia, while its vivaciously colored blooms and non-sticky foliage derive from the traits of Calibrachoa. Trailing, well-branched Petchoas are extremely low-maintenance, requiring little deadheading and no pinching. They tolerate heat, cold, wind, and rain as well as, if not better than, their parents. They show good disease resistance and are accepting of soil with high pH. All of these factors make them an extremely desirable choice for long-season performance. We love to feature Petchoas in container plantings, window boxes, and hanging baskets.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

Latin Name Pronunciation:  pet-ko'uh

Combining the best of both worlds, this cross of a Petunia and a Calibrachoa has the Petunia's vigorous, trailing growth and tolerance for hot and cold weather and the Calibrachoa's generous bloom without the stickiness of Petunias. Petchoas are easy-care annuals (perennial in zones 10-11) that require no deadheading and bloom from spring until frost.

Petchoa grows best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It is grown as annuals with prolific flowering from summer until frost, often utilized in containers and hanging baskets. Plants require regular watering to prevent them from wilting, but soil should not be soggy. During hot, dry summers, containers may need to be watered daily. When planted in the ground, plants benefit from organic matter, such as compost. Fertilize weekly for optimal flowering. Petchoa plants do not require deadheading, as they are self-cleaning, and plants only need to be pinched if you desire a more compact growth habit. They have the added attraction of the flowers not being sticky like those of Petunias. Perennial in zones 10-11.
