In many of our metropolitan areas, delicious Asian/Thai herbs and vegetables are featured in greengrocers' shops and restaurants. In keeping with the traditions of Asian/Thai cuisine, these plants are not only good to eat, but their lovely forms and colors also add to the enjoyment of growing and using them. In this collection we offer one plant of each variety listed below, five plants total. - Fine Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) -- A variety with more refined and tender leaves that tend to grow faster after cutting. Perfect as decorative ties for bundling around wonton wrappers for Golden Purses, a favorite Thai appetizer.
- Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus) -- Provides fresh citrusy flavor when sliced thinly and added to soups, stews, stir fries, and seafood dishes.
- Pepper 'Thai Dragon' -- Award-winning variety for prolific fruiting and a common ingredient that adds the fiery heat in many Asian dishes.
- Basil 'Siam Queen' -- An ornamental and aromatic Thai Basil redolent of sweet spices combined with the clove-mint scent and taste of basil. Distinctive purple stems and eye-catching purple flower whorls.
- Spearmint (Mentha spicata) -- A refreshing aromatic that enhances the basic flavors in Thai cooking. Added to finished dishes, often in great quantities, with leaves sometimes left whole to give a burst of fresh flavor with each bite.
