Product Details

For nearly 20 years, our customers have enjoyed this tender Lavender hybrid indoors during the long winter months. 'Goodwin Creek Grey' is well-suited to the dry conditions of our houses, and throws spikes of deep blue flowers above a lush mound of silver foliage. Just keep its pot in a sunny, south window with cool night temperatures. Sent as a bushy, fully-budded 1-year-old plant in a 7" wide glazed pot with saucer; kiln-fired, so no 2 are alike.

WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature

In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call our customer service staff at 1-800-411-6159.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the Shipping Details box for each item. Please refer to the Shipping Details box to determine the earliest shipping time. Unless you specify otherwise, fertilizers, tools, and other non-plant items are shipped with your plants or bulbs. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Lovely, Lively, Lavender!

Bubba Bear from Massachusetts

A beautiful plant with a great scent; lovely color even when not blooming. Easy to care for but it does requires a sunny spot and a lot of water.

a prefect gift to give and receive

Navy Girl from Hyannis, MA

I sent this to my best friend and I gave myself one. It arrived well-packed, with no damage to the plant or planter. When I opened the box, the smell of lavendar was very wonderful and welcoming. I cannot think of any cons, other than I wish there were more color choices for the planter for gift giving. Do not let this discourage you from ordering.

I was amazed that the plant was a good size. Not small at all. My best friend loves hers as well.

I would definitely buy this as gifts in the future.

Growing guide

LIGHT: To keep its lovely silver coloring and to produce spikes of dark blue flowers from spring to fall, Lavender 'Goodwin Creek Grey' demands a sunny south window indoors where it will receive 6-8 hours of direct sun. It will also grow well given 14-16 hours of light under a fluorescent light stand.

TEMPERATURE: Daytime temperatures of 60–75°F are fine indoors. In fall and winter, place your Lavender where the nighttime temperature falls to 60°F.

WATERING: Like most silver-leaved plants, Lavender is accustomed to growing in very dry, lean soil. Water only when the top inch of the potting mix is dry to the touch.

FERTILIZER: Fertilize no more frequently than once every 6 weeks during the growing season (April through September) with a balanced fertilizer, such as 20-20-20.

CONTINUING CARE: Lavender 'Goodwin Creek Grey' would be pleased to spend summer outdoors in a sunny location—either in a pot or in the ground. If you live in Zone 7 or warmer in the West, you can grow it outdoors year-round. In colder climates, bring the plant back indoors before frost. Lavenders falter in the torrid summers and mild wet winters that are common in the South. If you summer your plant outdoors, keep it in a pot and bring it back indoors for the winter.

Once the flowers have faded on a flower spike, use scissors to cut off the spike close to where it attaches to the stem. Maintain the overall shape of your Lavender by selective pinching of the new shoots. Pinch each shoot between thumb and forefingers; do not shear the plant as though it were a hedge.
