HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Great Collection

I am such a lover of Hostas and when I saw this collection I had the perfect place for them. I ordered in summer for a fall planting. Received the root balls, which were my first experience of planting those, and had them all in the ground by the next day. I had good roots going into fall but had to wait until this spring to see what would happen. So far i have 4 beautiful ferns started, waiting on the other two and hoping they will come through. And all the hostas but a few have popped up but some seem to be a little slow starters. So still holding out hope for the those missing. All in all I am excited to see how it fills out year after year and love the mix of this collection.

So happy with this purchase

I bought this collection two years ago and am delighted with its performance. The plants arrived bare root, as advertised, and were well marked and easy to plant. I live at 7200 feet altitude, and growing things can be tricky in that environment. Plants that love warm weather don’t like our cool nights. Plants that like cool weather don’t like our warm days. But all the hostas and ferns in this collection have grown into lovely specimens. I would definitely recommend this package.

David from Virginia

Money not well spent. Planted these bareroots per instructions last fall, Half the Hosta's never came up, and those that did are weak and anemic looking. They are planted in beds with other Hostas that grow just fine, so it is not location. Do not waste your money, go out and buy full grown Hostas locally and plant, will be a few years ahead of what growth you get out of this bare root assortment.

Fast Growers!

In the four weeks since planting, every single hosta has sprouted and some are now more than 10 inches high. There were several that I thought wouldn’t come up at all, but careful watering did the trick. The ferns are lush and filling out quickly. Excited to see this collection when it matures.

Lady Fern (Athyrium felix-femina): For initial planting of bareroot Ferns, lay the plants with buds and old fronds facing up in a shallow hole and cover with an inch of soil. Ferns are notoriously slow to send up new growth after planting, but good things come to those who wait.

Hostas: With a trowel, dig the planting holes and set the roots in them. Hold the buds (the pointed growing tips) 1 inch below the surface of the soil. then push soil back into the holes to cover the roots, firm the soil, and water thoroughly.
