Want your home to look warm and inviting for the holidays? Forget about a professional decorator. Do it Yourself! (DIY). This year create a personal holiday look for your home with White Flower Farm's ( easy-to-follow advice.

Start by choosing a color scheme and style that best suits your home. The next step is to personalize your home with either cherished ornaments or new ones that can become keepsakes and part of your tradition each year. Fabric or ribbon bows can accentuate the color theme in every room. For example, if you choose silver and blue as colors, spray twigs white and make blue fabric bows to add to your decorations. Once you've found a look that you like, you can repeat the theme throughout your home.

White Flower Farm also says that homemade wreaths and window boxes are simple to make by starting with evergreens already cut to size for decorating. Here are some of their favorite, easy-to-make DIY ideas for home decorating at the holidays. All of these materials can be found, at very reasonable prices, in their online holiday catalogue at

Fragrant Holiday Boughs - Fresh, hand-harvested evergreens bring the scent of the forest to wreaths and swags. Our 14-pound boxed collection includes noble fir, incense cedar, red cedar, berried juniper, white pine, salal, and variegated boxwood plus six pinecones, golden twigs and sprays of faux berries.

Cedar Garland - 25 feet of soft, fresh cedar branches creates a smooth drape for banisters, doorways, columns or fences. Includes a large, 12-loop, red-and-gold bow. You can add your favorite ornaments and a string of cranberries or lights for a custom look.

Live Dwarf Alberta Spruce - the dwarf Alberta spruce is an old favorite with a symmetrical conical habit, small green leaves and steady, dependable growth. Decorate our tree in a 3-gallon pot with exterior lights, bows and ornaments to give your main entrance a festive look. The tree slips easily into the All-Season Urn, an elegant container with the look of stone without the weight.

Canella Berry & Cone Runner - Fresh noble fir is a favorite part of our holiday tradition, and we like to combine it with incense cedar covered in tiny golden cones, arborvitae, large ponderosa pine cones, sprigs of silvery gray juniper berries, and bright red canella berries. Our 4-foot runner is perfectly sized for a mantelpiece, long table, or sideboard where you can enjoy its color and scent up close. Add your own candles for effect and decorate with tiny ornaments or white lights.

Window Box Greens - Our collection is perfect for outdoor containers or window boxes -- fresh incense cedar, noble fir, white pine, boxwood, red dogwood, large pine cones, white statice, and faux red berries make creating your own designs convenient and easy. A 14-pound box fills two 3- to 4-foot window boxes. Also available as a 7-pound box. Add weatherproof bows and ornaments to match your holiday color theme.

Holly and Greens Basket - Bold, bright, and beautiful describes this festive arrangement of fresh holly sprigs both variegated and green, bunches of shiny red, faux berries, and natural tan cones of ponderosa pine that repeat the woodsy tones of our rustic bark basket. The luxurious background of freshly cut noble fir tips provides a heady scent. Tie your fabric bow on the basket's handle and add shiny ornaments for an easy centerpiece with a personal touch.

Snowflake Wreath - Our eye-catching, 24-inch evergreen wreath in the shape of a snowflake will add sparkle to any doorway or wall. Fragrant noble fir is thickly woven into a six-pointed frame, and then adorned by pine cones, juniper berries, and ruffles of golden incense cedar. Keep decorating to a minimum and let this wreath stand on its own.

These are just a few suggestions, of course. DIY means that you can try different combinations of decorations -- mix some non-traditional in there too -- until you find just the right way to "dress up" your home for your celebrations. From our gardens to yours -- Happy Holidays!
