Growing Allium senescens (Flowering Onion)

Latin Name Pronunciation: al'ee-um

Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Average garden soil suits it fine. Remove spent flowers to prevent the appearance of volunteer seedlings. Unlike the bulbous Alliums (offered in the fall edition of The Garden Book), A. senescens keeps its leaves all summer long and so can be used at the front of the border.
