Foliage color of H. micrantha 'Pewter Veil' is best in partial shade in the North, partial shade or shade in the South and West. Plants prefer moisture-retentive but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter (see Soil Preparation). Plants are evergreen in all but the coldest winters; wait until spring to prune away winter-damaged foliage. In cold-winter climates, plants are prone to heaving the first winter after planting.
