Growing Guide Diamonds on Broadway

Leucanthemum (Shasta Daisy)

Formally classified as Chrysanthemum, Shasta Daisies are some of the showiest and most reliable plants for the summer garden. They produce an abundant supply of flowers that come in a range of sizes and shapes. Their colors make for stunning displays in mixed beds.

Light/Watering: Plant in full sun in well-drained soil.

Fertilizer/Soil and pH: Leucanthemum enjoy rich fertile soil. Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) in early spring.

Companions: Plant with Liatris, Hemerocallis, Monarda, Campanula and Delphinium.

Reflowering: Deadhead to promote new buds and trim back stems to about 12in after flowering to encourage rebloom.

Dividing/Transplanting: The center of older varieties will weaken over the years and the plant should be lifted and divided in spring every 2 or 3 years. For more information about dividing perennials, check out Making More Perennials: A Guide to Simple Division.
