Growing Hedera helix (English Ivy Houseplant)

A tolerant houseplant, English Ivy grows best in an east- or west-facing window, but will get by in a window that faces north, provided the window is not shaded by a nearby tree. Here in Litchfield, Connecticut, we can also give plants a southern exposure in winter without fear of burning the leaves. Any temperature above freezing suits English Ivy. Water when the potting mix feels dry to the touch 1 inch below the surface and fertilize on occasion during the growing season (April to September). Trim wandering stems with a sharp pair of scissors about once a month.
