Growing Gunnera (Giant Rhubarb)

Latin Name Pronunciation: guh-neer'-uh

Gunnera, or Giant Rhubarb, is one of the largest perennials on earth and is cultivated primarily for its handsome foliage. Hardy to Zone 7, plants can be grown as annuals in cooler climates.

Light/Soil: Gunnera prefers partial shade and damp to boggy sites with consistently moist soil. In cooler areas, plant in a spot sheltered from drying winds.

Continuing Care: Remove damaged or dead leaves as they appear. In cooler Zone 7 locations, provide a good layer of mulch in the fall for winter protection.
