Just in time for the beginning of summer, White Flower Farm will hold its annual Open House day, when we welcome old friends and new for iced tea and cucumber sandwiches on the lawn by our house. The date this year is Saturday, June 23rd and we will start serving around 2:30pm. The display gardens will be close to peak and the Begonia House full of renowned Blackmore & Langdon varieties will be hitting its stride.
Visitors can join White Flower Farm's Head Gardener for a guided tour of the display gardens at 1:30. There is no charge for the tour and visitors can register on White Flower Farm's Web site or on the following link: http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/08-gardenwalkreg.html
Two-Day Plant Sale, June 22-23, 9am-5pm
In addition to our Open House, visitors can look forward to our two-day plant sale where they can enjoy great values on a wide selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and garden accessories. For the first time this year, there will be a selection of our Crete Pots at a special discount. The shapes of these extraordinary hand-thrown pots are drawn from Classical-era containers that have been household items in Crete for centuries. Slow firing in wood-burning kilns gives them a soft shade of tan, which changes with the light and the pot's contents. They look at home in any garden or room, as planters or as sculpture. Shoppers should note that some of these pots are more than 24 inches tall, and may require a large vehicle for transportation. The two-day sale will take place on Friday, June 22nd and Saturday, June 23rd, rain or shine, 9am-5pm.
The end of Spring does not mean the end of the Planting Season
Barbara Pierson, Nursery Manager at White Flower Farm says spring isn't the only time to plant. "If you think that spring is the only time to plant, you could miss out on a big opportunity to add to you garden. Summer planting requires a bit more vigilance about watering. But on the other hand, you don't have to worry about a Spring frost."
White Flower Farm's Web site provides an A-Z list of Growing Guides in the Gardening Help section so that customers can be successful with every plant they choose. Check out "Gardening Help" at http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/gardening-help.html.
