We have grouped both perennial and annual Salvias on this page because both types are attractive to Hummingbirds. Only a few of the perennials in this large genus are hardy for us in Northwest Connecticut, but among them are several superb garden plants. Most offer spikes of densely packed flowers in shades of pink and purple and have a long period of bloom. They are especially valuable where summers are hot and dry, for they ignore heat and go steadily about the business of making flowers. All prefer sun and excellent drainage.
