Please plan to join us for exciting opportunities to hear and meet well-known horticulturists at the Farm, where you’ll have fun learning, talking with staff, touring the display gardens, and shopping from a special selection of plants in the heart of scenic northwestern Connecticut. A drawing for related plants will take place at each lecture. Talks are held in our lecture hall at the top of the hill. Parking is available near the offices by driving to the top of Esther’s Lane. Saturday, June 8th 10:00 a.m. - Garden Photography Made Easy with Rich Pomerantz
  Acclaimed photographer Rich Pomerantz will wow you with his garden photography and impart his wisdom so that you'll feel like a pro when you photograph your own gardens. Practical tips and a chance to photograph in the White Flower Farm gardens will be made available. $10 fee for this event.

Saturday, June 22nd - Annual Open House
  Annual Open House
Mark your calendars for our Open House day, when we welcome old friends and new for iced tea and cucumbers sandwiches on the lawn by our house. The date this year is Saturday, June 22 and we'll start serving around 2:30. The display gardens should be close to peak and the Begonia House full of renowned Blackmore & Langdon varieties will be hitting its stride. Click here for directions.

at White Flower Farm with Artist Lois Bender

White Flower is pleased to announce an exciting new program to take place at the farm this July. We are joining New York City artist Lois Bender to offer open air watercolor painting classes. All levels welcome, beginners to more experienced.

White Flower Farm is a beautiful site to paint, with expansive landscapes and captivating floral gardens. Learn the basic skills of watercolor in a format of 16 "grid-style" exercises including washes, brushstroke use, color blending exercises, wet-into-wet colors and how to apply them in a basic gardenscape. Learn how to select and compose inspiring garden views with nature sketching techniques and how to choose watercolor techniques in your gardenscapes.

Schedule of Each Workshop Day
11 am - 12:15 pm
Introduction to basic watercolor skills 16 techniques - warmup exercises or nature sketchbook: selecting and sketching a series of compositions

12:15 - 1 pm Break / Lunch
Please bring your own Lunch!

Review 1 - 5 pm
Demonstration: Creating a Basic Gardenscape and Painting
Each day's "demo" focuses on a different view of White Flower Farm Gardens. Selecting your view, designing composition, blocking in shapes, organizing foreground (close-ups) and background, using watercolor techniques, color blocking & detail with one-on-one instruction.

Fee: 1 Day Workshop $65
Series of 3 Classes: $165 ($55./class)

Outdoor Tips: Aside from the seating available in the garden, please bring your own "beach" chair to ensure sitting wherever you want to paint! Remember water bottle, insect repellant, suntan lotion, hat. Workshop held Rain or Shine.

 
Saturday, July 13th – The World of Hydrangeas – to grow them is to love them
 
Glorious hydrangea is the topic of this talk and demo with live plants. Learn all you need to know in order to enjoy a fantastic flower display year in and year out with this popular and expanding genre of plants.

Tuesdays in the Garden
 
Back by popular demand! Be part of the garden discussion with staff members and fellow gardeners as we gather each Tuesday for lunch in the shade of the garden. You bring your favorite sandwich and we'll supply the drinks. A lively topic of discussion, demonstrations, and tours will be part of the excitement. Each session will last no longer than an hour and starts at 12:30 p.m. Advance registration and enthusiasm are required!
