During the summer of 2007, we began a media collaboration with our neighbor down the street, Fine Gardening magazine. Videographer Gary Junken visited the nursery and filmed everyday activities of interest to home gardeners. We raise certain crops in our catalogues from seed, and in this first video propagation manager Alyson Brown sows Miss Wilmott's Ghost (reportedly named after a British gardener who sprinkled the seeds of Eryngium giganteum on the sly when she came to visit), and a Castor Bean (Ricinus 'Carmencita Bright Red'). Years of practice allow Ms. Brown to distribute seeds evenly across a flat of seed-starting mix by hand. You'll appreciate her tips on seed mixes, depth to plant, tamping, and covering, and always, always to use labels and dates.
