WHITE FLOWER FARM GOES GREEN WITH ONLINE CATALOGS
(Printed catalogs still available upon request)
It may be a pun, but White Flower Farm (www.whiteflowerfarm.com) is trying to be "greener." Although their popular printed catalogs are recyclable, the company has reduced the number mailed by 10% over the past 4 years. They keep working hard to move their business to the Internet, where they can serve customers better with up-to-the-minute inventory, how-to videos, social media, and a vast amount of gardening information. The web allows White Flower Farm to introduce new plants to gardeners in real time as they become available, too.
Every printed catalog has an identical electronic twin on their web site (http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/catalogues.html). It's easy to browse or shop online catalogs by clicking on page corners, photos, or descriptions. White Flower Farm creates specialty online-only catalogs, also, featuring gifts, preplanned gardens, and principles of design. Customers are welcome to suggest other ideas, but not all online catalogs will be printed and mailed – another benefit of "going green."
Right now there are four online catalogs available: Spring 2011, Gifts 2011, Gardens 2011 and Designing Your Garden. One more catalog -- Bulbs 2011 -- will join the other offerings in early March. Each catalog has many features and can literally be read like a printed catalog. Customers can search, bookmark, email to a friend, view thumbnails, zoom, and even request a printed catalog. The drag bar along the top allows you to go to specific pages quickly. Each catalog has a table of contents and is in full color.
White Flower Farm's online catalogs are available up to two weeks in advance of a printed mailing. For gardeners eager to browse new offerings and see if their favorites are back for another season, or for anyone who likes to order early for the best selection, online catalogs are the preferred way to shop. New online catalogs are announced by email and posted on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/White-Flower-Farm/86550408163). Go paperless – it's convenient, saves resources, and there's nothing to recycle.
