Asclepias Gay Butterflies Mix produces blooms in shades of fiery red, orange, and yellow in June and July, adding sizzle to the hot-colored border. They are also magical with Delphiniums and shorter Grasses. A favorite of butterflies and other beneficial insects. Because we cannot guarantee the complete assortment of bloom colors in this seed mix, we offer the plants in multiples of 3 in order to help provide a sampling of the full color range.

Of the 200 species in the genus Asclepias, the best known are North American wildflowers. They have small, curiously shaped blooms that appear in dense clusters. These plants provide nourishment for Monarch butterflies through all their life stages, and are essential for their survival.

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

slow taking off but now they are amazing

I planted these a couple of years ago. The first season I was unimpressed. The second season they were amazing- big and colorful! I think I got more beetles than butterflies, but they loved them!

Tried and True, just picky SEEDS MUST HAVE WATER

I want to tell you all about this plant/ seeds, I've ordered from white flower farm for years, I"ve had a lot of items not come up but they always replaced them for me, this is a great company to deal with and I'd wish you'd all give them another chance, this plant is picky, number one, it comes up late, you should mark it, I do. last year I planted seeds and got about 50 plants, you have to put the seeds on top of your bed and barely put them under dirt, here's the catch that no one wants to do, they must repeat must be watered daily, unless their is rain, I got so many monarchs that this year I"m planting 600 seeds, I want butterflies everywhere I look, so please give them both another chance, you won't regret it

Just won't take for me

Tried planting twice. Never came up. I wish I could get it started but have given up on it. However, I have seen beautiful stands of it and know it can be a worthwhile garden plant.

Asclepias Gay Butterrflies

I am so disappointed. I bought these for my mom last year for Mothers Day. They were approximately three inches tall when she received them. They did not grow and they barely bloomed. I will never buy anything else from White Flower Farm.
Response from White Flower FarmWhite Flower Farm, 2 years ago (04/13/19 01:05PM)

I am sorry to learn the Asclepias purchased in 2018 did not survive. As all of our perennial plants are guaranteed for a full year from the time received I will be contacting you via email regarding compensation.

Latin Name Pronunciation: uh-sklee'pee-us

This genus, commonly known as Milkweed, consists of many North American native species, and is most notable for attracting butterflies. Their flowers are excellent nectar sources, and the plants are important hosts for the larval stage of the Monarch butterfly. Use Asclepias in pollinator gardens, sunny borders, and meadows.

Asclepias grows best planted in full sun and well-drained soil (sandy soil is ideal). Since some perennial Milkweed varieties are among the last to emerge from dormancy in spring, mark their location so you don't plant something on top of them.
