These extraordinary pots are thrown by hand, then fired for hours in wood-burning kilns that give them a soft and variable shade of tan, which changes with the light and the pots' contents. Shapes are drawn from Classical-era containers that were then, and are now, common household items in Crete. They provide a look that is both traditional and informal, and we've given them prominent positions throughout our gardens and in our home.

The line available at the White Flower Farm Store includes pots up to 6' tall, but the ones offered here are the largest we are confident will ship safely. They are marvelous grouped together, since each form seems to flatter every other. Keep from freezing in winter.

Multiple rings from top to bottom, some softly rounded but many more etched into the clay, give a distinctive look to this container. The Kion pot has one drainage hole.

  • Measures approximately 13" wide x 17" tall
  • Pots are thrown by hand, so no two are alike
  • Weighs approximately 18 pounds
  • Holds about 20 quarts of soil (around ⅔ cubic foot)
  • Planter uses about ⅔ of a bag of our Fafard Container Mix. Click here to order.

Every state has agricultural regulations that restrict the shipment of certain plants. We're sorry, but we cannot ship this item to the following states: California, Oregon, Washington.

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the Shipping Details box for each item. Please refer to the Shipping Details box to determine the earliest shipping time. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at expected time of delivery.

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

I have several of the Cretan pots, and they all set a Grecian mood to my garden. I have two of these tall and narrow KION, one on each side of a forest-green Adirondack glider and they set the tone. One pot contains a WFF lavender, and the other, two kind of thyme. The thymes are trailing out of the urn...lovely--they are also WFF English and one French. We call it the 100 Years' War, as usually when you plant a few herbs together one of them takes over. The only drawback is that the pots are terracotta and do need that winter protection. Last winter, I put the foam they were packed in around my two other wider and thicker pots and that worked well. We'll be back for more.

Beautiful pot

We're using the pot indoors for the winter, and it looks even better than it does in the photo. As the other reviewer mentioned, I wouldn't leave this out for the winter: it's not a war-horse. WWF did a great job (unbelievable job really) of packing.

This is a beautiful terra cotta pot with a real old-world feel to it. They are handmade - I ordered two and they are slightly different shapes and sizes. They look absolutely stunning tucked away in my border as if they had been abandoned there a century ago. I love them!! The only warning is that they are fairly thin pots, so I would definitely bring these indoors in the winter as they are not likely to survive a freeze/thaw.
