Product Details

This hybrid offers the large, deep apricot flowers of the Japanese species (C. grandiflora) and gets its hardiness from the American native. Widely grown in European gardens, it deserves to be better known on this side of the Atlantic.

Trumpet Creepers produce showy, trumpet-shaped flowers, which open from July to September and attract hummingbirds. The large leaves are compound, divided into many shiny, toothed leaflets. Vines grow very rapidly, fixing themselves to wood, stone, bark, or whatever else may lie in their path. They are easily kept in check by pruning. Of easy culture in most soils in full sun or partial shade.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

beautiful devil plant

this is an attractive, but uncontrollable plant. I'm going into the 2nd year of trying to destroy it as I cant control it. its as though its fighting for survival and sending out little troops in all directions in order to preserve itself. the main root is so thick and deep, I dug up a quarter of my back yard trying to get to it (it broke off). if I had it all to do again I would have planted it in a giant pot. besides the butterflies and humming birds; bees, wasp and hornets also love it. one year I even had a wasp nest in the middle of its dense foliage. I was able to prevent the wasp from getting too comfortable last year with the daily use of a wasp/hornet spray.

Too Invasive for My Climate

This trumpet vine is a tough climber which grows and blooms in semi-shade, but it was too invasive here in the upper South. Repeated applications of a chemical weedkiller were needed to eliminate it with all its suckers and seedlings after it outgrew its ample space. I suspect that it is much better behaved further north.

Latin Name Pronunciation: kamp'sis

Grow Campsis in full sun or partial shade. The plants are not fussy about soil. Very vigorous—tame plants by pruning in late winter or early spring; plants flower on the current season's growth. They often produce suckers (shoots from the base); which should be removed as soon as they appear. Campsis climbs by means of rootlike holdfasts that stick tenaciosly to almost any surface.

Please note: Campsis vines are among the last woody plants to leaf out in spring. Your patience will be rewarded with amazingly vigorous growth.
