WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature

In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call our customer service staff at 1-800-411-6159.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Great quality

I received this Christmas Rose as a gift for Christmas. I had it now for 4 weeks. It was in great condition upon arriving. Well packaged, even with heating pads because of the cold weather.
It is very beautiful, had and has many flowers and keeps growing.

Delightful with adequate care

Given the bad reviews, I felt compelled to speak up- This is a gorgeous hellebore and a delight to have in the house IF you take care of it.
It must be watered when drooping, and you'll have to deadhead the spent blooms, yellowing leaves (if any), etc. After watering and a bit of tidying, this beautiful little plants keeps looking good through the season. Looking forward to putting it in the garden in the spring, then bringing it back in next Christmas, as well!

So disappointed!

I ordered this to display for Christmas. What arrived was different from the picture in that it has stray/ hay encircling the top, which sheds continuously. Despite following online directions the plant dropped in some sections and dried out in others. When lifted out of the plastic pot (which is inserted in the ceramic pot) I saw that the plant was in a paper pot as well, which was all ripped and the roots of the plant split in two. Definitely not up to the White Flower Farm standard.

What did I do? ( or not do?)

Received this pretty plant with one flower and a few buds… within a few days, other flowers appeared— but within 10 days…it’s drooping and very sad. I made sure not to water, put it inside by a window both indirect and bright light (only for an hour or so as the sun goes down). I reread the suggestions… I’m guessing my helpful 94 year old mother added water - even though I asked her not to…(she forgets). I hope it’ll revive.

The Christmas Rose is a hardy, deer-resistant garden plant that is willing to bloom indoors. The large, white flowers will generally open within 3-4 weeks of arrival and can last for two weeks or more.

Light: Provide partial shade or bright indirect light. An east- or a west-facing window is ideal.

Watering: Water when the potting mix is dry to the touch 1 inch below the surface. Avoid overwatering (which will cause the roots to rot and the leaves to yellow) or letting the potting mix dry out completely.

Temperature: Hellebores are adapted to cool temperatures, so place it in the coldest room in the house (a temperature of 55-60 degrees F is best). The cooler the room, the longer you’ll have flowers to enjoy.

Fertilizer: When plants are in active growth (April to September) apply a balanced (18-18-18) houseplant fertilizer monthly, diluted to 1/4-strength. If you transplant your Christmas Rose to the garden, fertilize it once a year in the spring with a balanced (10-10-10) granular fertilizer.

Continuing Care: In all but Gulf Coast areas (southeastern USDA Zones 9 and 10), Christmas Roses can be planted outdoors in spring in a shady location with humus-rich, well-drained soil. Continue to care for your potted plant through the winter and transplant it outside after the danger of frost has passed.
