Product Details
One doesn’t think of Heathers as indoor plants, but in our trials we were impressed by the adaptability and flower power of this small Erica carnea, sometimes referred to as Winter Heath. It throws tiny, delicate pink flowers alongside its needle-like leaves, and can stay in flower for as long as 6-8 weeks. We deliver the plant in an attractive ceramic cachepot and once the display fades, it can be planted outdoors, hardy in Zones 6-8. Shipped in a 4" blue-and-white ceramic cachepot.
These small, evergreen shrubs, known botanically as Erica, provide a display of color in every season. Flowers range from snow-white to crimson, and the foliage varies from deep green through yellow and golden tones to reddish winter tints.

WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature
In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
WHEN WE SHIP
We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Growing guide
Latin Name Pronunciation: air'-ih-kah
Plant out of the way of winter winds in full sun (or partial shade in the South and in warm inland areas of the West) and well-drained, acidic soil that retains moisture. A 3-6 inch layer of peat moss, dug in before planting, helps to satisfy all three soil requirements. Plants prefer lean soil; do not fertilize. At the limits of a variety's cold hardiness, cover lightly with evergreen boughs in late fall and spray an antidesiccant (available at garden centers) to prevent winter winds from "burning" the leaves. Prune stems that suffered winter damage as new growth emerges in spring; remove spent flowers and and awkward growth right after bloom.
