Product Details

'Gartenmeister Bonstedt' is a Fuchsia that doesn't look the part. It has an upright habit, and its 18" stems produce numerous pendent clusters of salmon-pink flowers that are tubular in shape. It blooms heavily from early summer until frost, and hummingbirds seek it out in search of nectar. Foliage is a satiny, bronze-green with striking reddish purple veins. An excellent container plant that takes full sun here and thrives in partial shade.

Fuchsia is a genus of about 50 species, which include both shrubs and small trees native to Central and South America. Most are tropicals that cannot survive freezing temperatures. They are greatly valued as ornamentals because they bloom heavily and constantly throughout the summer months in partial shade. They make ideal seasonal landscape plants in mild climates and a superb choice for pots, planters, and hanging baskets in colder areas.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

A Hummingbird Magnet!

I planted 8 fuchsia in the 70" long window box outside my home office window (box gets full sun in the afternoon). Once fuchsias started flowering the hummingbirds visited the box every few hours (all day!). Plants grew full height (only downside for a window box) but the constant hummingbird traffic made the obstructed view through late September worth it! I will definitely purchase them again ... but will plant Begonia "Unbelievable Miss Montreal" in-between to give the fuchsia a little vertical support.

Beautiful But Not For Baking Sun!!!

This plant has real personality. He kept calling out that he hated the hot sun, so we moved the pot under a tree for filtered sun. I didn't think he was going to make it, at first. He definitely would prefer cooler weather, maybe even indoors in A/C. I wouldn't recommend this plant for South Florida. We are watering every day but it's just too hot & sultry. I feel very bad for him but I don't have a good place indoors. Many people have complimented & said he was very unusual & pretty.

Hummingbirds love this fuchsia

I used three of these in a large container and they quickly grew to max size and bloomed continuously. Really drew the hummingbirds.

Fantastic for containers

I love how this fuchsia stands tall and the constant gorgeous blooms it displays - no deadheading. Could not believe the beautiful plants that I received from White Flowers farms in CT as I live in southern WV.

Latin Name Pronunciation: few'shuh

In most parts of the country, Fuchsias perform best in partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. Here at our nursery in Morris, though, they also grow well in full sun.

Most of the Fuchsias we offer are annuals (hardy to Zone 9 [20°]). In all but the mildest winter climates, bring plants indoors before frost and overwinter in a sunny window in a cool room. Set back outdoors after the danger of frost has passed in spring.

We also offer varieties from the species known as Hardy Fuchsia (F. magellanica). These robust varieties can be overwintered outdoors in Zone 6 if mulched heavily. They make a good informal hedge in mild climates, but die back like perennials in cooler areas of the country, such as Zone 6.
