Growing Chrysanthemum

The genus Chrysanthemum is part of the Asteraceae family and encompasses numerous species native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Extend the season of color in your autumn garden with hardy, low-maintenance Mums. These fuss-free perennials produce tidy, dense mounds of spectacular color and begin flowering in late summer and, given adequate hydration, will carry on until a hard frost. They are ideal for mixed borders and foundations plantings in hardiness Zones 3-9. In Northern gardens, site them in full sun. In the South, plants prefer part shade. The Igloo series of hardy Mums offers dome-shaped, first-year flowering plants that do not require pinching to keep them compact and covered with blooms each fall.
