Big, bold, and bright, Coleus Campfire sports coppery orange foliage that keeps its color in sun or shade. Plants make quite a statement alone or combined with other plants in large containers and borders. 'UF12221' PP 27,269

The endlessly varied foliage of Coleus has made a comeback as gardeners rediscover old varieties and breeders introduce new ones. Our selection offers a diversity of foliage color, leaf shape, and growth habit, and they all make glorious container subjects. Though most tolerate full sun, they are more valuable for color in shade. Perennial in Zone 10.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Disappointing

A viewer from Worcester, MA

Bought 3 of these and had to wait one month for delivery. These plants are so scrawny, not worth the money I paid for them at all. Will not be ordering again.

Campfire coleus

Purchased these coleus and was very disappointed. They are very scrawny and had to wait 3 weeks for them. Went to my local co-op and bought the exact same plant twice as big and half the price. My first and last purchase

Coleus Campfire Stupendous!!

A viewer from Dolton, Illinois zone 5

I bought two of these Campfire Coleus' last year and they grew quickly and to the full 28" height maybe even a littkle taller and where over two feet wide. The branches were thick, about a quarter round. They were the most gorgeous deep maroon and goldish color. Both plants were in the front of my house with a western exposure where there was no shade. My only regret is that they are not perennials. This is one plant I will order every year that it is available!

Coleus Campfire

A viewer from Dolton Illinois

I purchased two of these plants in June of this year. I couldn't be happier with them. They have really grown, they are full and gorgeous; their color is a vibrant deep red with a hint of orange on the leaves. They have just started having a flower bloom on their stems. I definitely will re purchase again next year! I just wish they were perennials

Latin Name Pronunciation: ko'lee-us

Traditionally, Coleus have been terrific foliage plants for shade, but many of the new varieties are also quite tolerant of sun. Variations in light intensity can have a dramatic impact on leaf color and plant size. Their diversity of foliage color, leaf shape, and growth habit make Coleus a valuable container and bedding plant, especially in shade where summer color is scarce.

All Coleus prefer evenly moist garden soil. Where the growing season is long, pinch the tips of the stems regularly to encourage branching and compact growth. If you grow Coleus in containers, we recommend that you incorporate a timed-release fertilizer at planting time. We also suggest using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every two weeks for plants in containers; in the ground, once a month is enough, with the fertilizer diluted to half-strength. Hardy only to Zone 10, plants cannot withstand frost without damage. In colder climates, plants can be overwintered without difficulty on a sunny windowsill, or take tip cuttings in early fall to start new plants. Coleus root very readily.

It is commonly recommended that the blooms of Coleus be removed as soon as they appear because they detract from the foliage display. Bloom is sparse on the varieties we offer, and the small lavender-blue flowers are neither unattractive nor very showy; it hardly seems worth the trouble to cut them off.
