A colorful and eye-catching addition to the autumn and winter garden, compact Ornamental Cabbage Osaka Red is a distinctive late-season attraction with rosy-red centers encircled by curly green leaves that shade to purple as temperatures cool. These low-maintenance, high-contrast plants are best planted in groups, and they add pizzazz to other fall favorites including Chrysanthemums, Symphyotrichums, Sedums, and Ornamental Grasses. Super for bedding and containers.

Shipping

Shipping
Every state has agricultural regulations that restrict the shipment of certain plants. We're sorry, but we cannot ship this item to the following states: Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Ornamental Cabbage and Kale can be real eye-catchers in the fall flower garden and containers with their diverse leaf shapes and colors. Both are in the Brassica family and, although technically edible, they have a bitter taste compared to their edible counterparts. They are best enjoyed outdoors as décor plants and used in the kitchen only as a garnish.

Plant in organically rich, well-drained soil in full sun, providing afternoon shade in warmer climates. Excessive heat will cause plants to “bolt” in which they send up a flower stalk that takes energy away from the leaves. With each successive frost, the foliage color will become more intense.

There is little, if any need to fertilize plants and too much can cause them to lose their compact shape and beautiful color. Provide enough spacing to allow for good air circulation. Plants will survive the season until temperatures begin to drop below 5°F.
