Product Details

As you might guess, Anemone x hybrida 'Robustissima' is a big, sturdy plant. It throws lots of lovely mauve-pink, 3″ flowers on stems that rise to 4′. Flowering begins in August and continues for several weeks above large, handsomely lobed leaves. It's a powerful presence in the garden and a natural companion for long-legged perennials such as Eupatorium.

Formerly listed as Anemone tomentosa 'Robustissima.'

Japanese Anemones are sensational plants that throw great sprays of fresh, springlike flowers in late summer and early autumn and bring new life to a tired garden. They range in height up to 5', and they obligingly fill in any available space, though the plant is far too charming to be called invasive. Great in perennial or shrub borders, where they add late-summer color after most plants have bloomed.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Beautiful and very special

I spotted this flower in a demo planter at a Westport nursery. It wasn't identified, and I looked a long time for it. I was so delighted to find it at White Flower Farms, my favorite online nursery! It is doing very well in a sunny southeast corner of a new garden bed among native plants. The first blossom opened in the second week of August, and there are many buds. Thanks, White Flower Farms!

Gorgeous, but Aggressive

I love Japanese anemones in the perennial border, as long-blooming performers at end of growing season when little else is still blooming. But, they're absolutely breathtaking when many are planted together as the only plant in one big bed. The mass of these delicate flowers swaying in the wind is enchanting. And, with this variety, you will soon have a mass. They make lots of babies!

Latin Name Pronunciation: uh-nem'oh-nee

These plants thrive in deep, rich, moisture-retentive soils where they get some relief from the mid-day sun (afternoon shade is required in the South and warm inland areas of the West). May be slow to become established but will eventually spread happily and bloom freely if conditions are to their liking. Varieties that grow in excess of 36 inches tall may require staking.
