Product Details

Product Details

We've discovered a choice, vegetatively propagated Centaurea cineraria called 'Colchester White' that makes a superb accent plant in a border or container and sets off every color in the rainbow. Also known as Dusty Miller, it grows much larger than seed-grown varieties, attaining a height of 30″ or more by late summer, and its filigreed foliage forms a dome-shaped fountain that gleams by day and continues to shine as the sun dips below the horizon. Despite its English-sounding name, 'Colchester White' thrives in heat and drought and also smiles through humid southern summers. Perennial in Zones 8–10.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Every garden needs gray and silver.

An update, we order this every year for a notable garden originally designed by Penelope Hobhouse. Always does well and found a great pairing is white Salvia farinacea Snow White. As it starts out you might confuse it with common Dusty Miller..but once it gets to size its much larger and creates restful reflective light swaths in the garden about 1.5 - 2 feet high.

Graceful Grey

This plant is an excellent easy fast grower for creating nice feathery gray/white tonal areas in the garden. Pairs nicely with all colors and bold flower shapes. Because of the height/size available here it will be better deeper in the bed than any dusty miller you might consider as a substitute. Haven't ordered from here yet but will be soon ..happy to find this source.

Latin Name Pronunciation: sen-taw-ree'uh

Grow Centaurea in full sun or partial shade and moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Cut flower stems to the ground after first wave of blossoms to encourage rebloom (which isn't dependable in the South) and to curb tendency to self-sow.
