It may seem hard to believe that a newly planted bulb would bloom just a few weeks later, but that's exactly what these cheerful Crocus do the first year. We anticipate and welcome their return each fall just as much as we do their spring-blooming counterparts. Our mix includes 5 bulbs each of the 5 varieties listed below, and they will provide a long run of color in shades of lilac, purple, and white for a delightful fall finale. 25 bulbs cover 1½ sq ft.

  • Crocus pulchellus
  • Crocus sativus
  • Crocus speciosus
  • Crocus speciosus 'Albus'
  • Crocus speciosus 'Conqueror'

We ship fall Crocus in September. The bulbs must be planted right away so they may go about the business of rooting. Fall Crocus grow best in a sunny, protected site.

For information on the planting and care of Crocus, click Growing Guide.

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the Shipping Details box for each item. Please refer to the Shipping Details box to determine the earliest shipping time. Unless you specify otherwise, fertilizers, tools, and other non-plant items are shipped with your plants or bulbs. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at expected time of delivery.

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

A viewer from New Jersey

My Mother always loved to see the Crocus bloom first in Spring. Her birthday is on March 19th, so very near the Vernal Equinox. Her Mother was always glad to see her birthday come.
In any case, one year I planted crocus bulbs out front under a tree by the walkway to the front steps. The next year, when they bloomed, all kinds of beautiful little purple, white and yellow flowers came up, very delicate little things, some white with thin purple veins. And she was both surprised and delighted, as she didn't know I had planted them.
This Harbinger of Spring will always be welcome, no matter who you give them to. This year she is 89.
The Chinese add nine months to your age, dating you from conception. So she is almost ninety.
The Chinese also say, "Every day is your Birthday."
In a way, every moment is a Birth moment. So go ahead and splurge, Tomorrow never comes.
