Shipping Info
Every state has agricultural regulations that restrict the shipment of certain plants, and select non-plant items may be subject to other shipping constraints. As a result, we cannot ship this item to the following states: AZ, CA, ID, MT, NV, OR, UT or WA.

We want our customers to receive strong, healthy plants that are ready to thrive in their gardens and homes. Here's what we'd like you to know about our shipping practices.

Delivery Timing

We aim to deliver your plants at as close to the proper time for planting in your area as possible. To do so, we consider the USDA Hardiness Zone to which we're shipping, current and forecasted weather at the destination and along the shipping route, and whether your plants are ready for transplant.

In spring, we ship first to the warmest regions and move north as planting conditions improve. For fall deliveries, we begin with the coolest regions and work south. We frequently adjust shipping schedules when extreme weather could put plants at risk while in transit or soon after arrival.

Because different plants reach readiness at different rates and are weather-sensitive in varying degree, a single order may be delivered via multiple shipments. Plants sold as part of a collection, or that are otherwise meant to arrive together, will be shipped together. Please contact our customer service team with two weeks' advance notice if you anticipate being away at the expected time of delivery

Tracking information for each package is delivered via email.

Plant & Container Sizes

We deliver plants in various sizes and stages of growth, and the product detail pages of our website indicate the form and/or pot size in which the plant will be delivered. Pot sizes range from 1 pint to 1 gallon and larger. Many perennials, roses, shrubs and vines are delivered bareroot - that is, not in a container at all. Bulbs and tubers are generally delivered bareroot and fully dormant. We choose container sizes and delivery methods based on how each plant grows best, how we can minimize transplant shock, and how to minimize unnecessary bulk/weight in shipment.

Caring for Your Plants Upon Arrival

It is important to acclimate greenhouse-grown plants to life outdoors. All plant shipments include simple instructions for handling your plants upon arrival. Further how-to information, including planting instructions, is available on each plant's product page.

Beautiful

"I planted this collection in a morning sun/afternoon shade location last year. Unfortunately I lost the Blue ridge phlox & heuchera to rabbits. After that, I made sure to cage the hosta. I have never seen such a huge and healthy bleeding heart plant, after a full year it is 3 ft wide and is the star of the shade garden! The pulmonaria is beautiful and almost fluorescent after a long winter. I'm hoping the hosta really hits it's stride this year, but I plan to replace the lost plants so I can get the full effect of this garden design!"

Beautiful year after year

"I ordered two of these gardens for the very shady areas on either side of my front door in 2018. Every year the plants get a bit larger and more beautiful. I get compliments on the colors and unusual plants. One of the grasses died after the first year and WFF replaced it and shipped for free. It is now as big as the other grass. This garden fills in within 2 seasons. I have had to cut back the hydrangeas for the first time this past fall. I have also been able to transplant some of the ground covers in other areas. Highly recommend!"

Planting Guide

"I ordered three different plant collections. They all arrived in one box. Plants look healthy - but there are no planting guides. I had to call to have the planting guides emailed to me - now I have to sort through all the plants and figure out which belong to each collection. It would have been much more helpful to receive each collection in a separate box with the planting guide included in the box."

Planting Guide!

"Planting guide came with my order and plants look great. The first picture for this item on the website is a diagram with a sample garden plan—I used that to determine where and how far apart to plant. First time planting bare root, but the guide that came with my order was really helpful. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out—thank you, White Flower Farm, for the shade option on the hummingbird garden kit!!!"

No Planting Guide

"I'm looking forward to seeing how this garden grows. No planting guide was included with the plants as promised and documentation of plant size/spread is not consistently included for us to be able to figure that out. I'm a novice with bare root plants but now will have to delay planting until you reopen to answer questions!"

No Planting Guide Customer number 2

"I just received my shipment, not only do my plants look tattered there was no guide as well in my box."

My Beloved Lollipop Tree

"What could be nicer to see in your window than this rosemary topiary? Bought one, killed it by either placing it in a south window, misting it or overwatering. My second thrives happily in an east facing window, on a bed of pebbles. I only water when the soil is dry. When it is in stock again I’ll buy another. It’s a beauty!"

worth it

"So far, I'm really happy with this little garden. Every one of the plants arrived in good condition (despite the COVID rush) and they've all survived the extreme heat we've been having lately. Based on previous reviews, I decided to double up the order so the garden would be a bit lusher a bit sooner. Right now it looks just about perfect but I'm betting next year I'll have to thin things out and transplant things to other spots. Still, I love the mix of colors and love how hardy the plants are both with the weather and with the bugs. Several of the plants that I picked up at the local garden center are suffering from aphids and these haven't had any trouble with them. The Black Scallop and the Purple Dragon not only look lush and healthy but have also spread a lot from the tiny pots they started in."

Disappointed for the very first time

"I have purchased thousands of dollars of plant material from White Flower Farm. While I understand that you are very busy during this time of Covid, I never expected to receive a $99.00 collection with a plant missing, and three plants in very bad shape. There was no Hydrangea Serrata, and three of the four plants were dried out and severely root bound. I would rather you had cancelled the order than send this inferior product which was quite expensive."

Layout for 2 or 3?

"Haven't purchase yet but this looks perfect for what I need. Questions: For a double or triple order, would you recommend repeating the layout or making the layout larger? In other words, put all each plant type together so you have a big group of lamium, big group of ajuga, etc? Also, my neighbors took down a bunch of trees, so my shade to deep shade area might get more sun. Can these plants take it, or should I wait and see how this summer goes? Thank you!"
