Product Details

It may seem hard to believe that a newly planted bulb would bloom just a few weeks later, but that's exactly what these cheerful fall-blooming Crocus do the first year. We anticipate and welcome their return each fall just as much as we do their spring-blooming counterparts. Our mix includes 7 varieties listed below, and they will provide a long run of color in shades of lilac, purple, and white for a delightful fall finale. 25 bulbs, not labeled. Covers approximately 1½ sq ft.

  • Crocus pulchellus - lilac
  • Crocus pulchellus 'Albus' - white
  • Crocus speciosus - violet
  • Crocus speciosus 'Albus' - white
  • Crocus speciosus 'Cassiope' - lavender
  • Crocus speciosus 'Artabir' - light blue
  • Crocus speciosus 'Conqueror' - violet blue

Perhaps because the sun is so low in the sky after the autumn equinox, the blooms of fall Crocus positively glow in the landscape. They appear between September and January (depending on your climate) on stems 3–6″ tall and have the same refined goblet-shaped flowers of their spring cousins.

We ship fall Crocus in September. The bulbs must be planted right away so they may go about the business of rooting. Fall Crocus grow best in a sunny, protected site.

Shipping Info

We want our customers to receive strong, healthy plants that are ready to thrive in their gardens and homes. Here's what we'd like you to know about our shipping practices.

Delivery Timing

We aim to deliver your plants at as close to the proper time for planting in your area as possible. To do so, we consider the USDA Hardiness Zone to which we're shipping, current and forecasted weather at the destination and along the shipping route, and whether your plants are ready for transplant.

In spring, we ship first to the warmest regions and move north as planting conditions improve. For fall deliveries, we begin with the coolest regions and work south. We frequently adjust shipping schedules when extreme weather could put plants at risk while in transit or soon after arrival.

Because different plants reach readiness at different rates and are weather-sensitive in varying degree, a single order may be delivered via multiple shipments. Plants sold as part of a collection, or that are otherwise meant to arrive together, will be shipped together. Please contact our customer service team with two weeks' advance notice if you anticipate being away at the expected time of delivery.

Tracking information for each package is delivered via email.

Plant & Container Sizes

We deliver plants in various sizes and stages of growth, and the product detail pages of our website indicate the form and/or pot size in which the plant will be delivered. Pot sizes range from 1 pint to 1 gallon and larger. Many perennials, roses, shrubs and vines are delivered bareroot - that is, not in a container at all. Bulbs and tubers are generally delivered bareroot and fully dormant. We choose container sizes and delivery methods based on how each plant grows best, how we can minimize transplant shock, and how to minimize unnecessary bulk/weight in shipment.

Caring for Your Plants Upon Arrival

It is important to acclimate greenhouse-grown plants to life outdoors. All plant shipments include simple instructions for handling your plants upon arrival. Further how-to information, including planting instructions, is available on each plant's product page.

not much of a mix

"I have grown these for two years now, just to be sure. All that have bloomed for me (approximately half the bulbs) are lavender Crocus speciosus (in two different shades) The other half the bulbs make a lot of leaves each year but never bloom; not in the autumn and not in the spring."

Much needed Fall color

"We had nothing blooming in our yard during the early Fall so last year, planted a few of these. Immediately regretted not getting more when the cheery little blooms began popping up! This year, as soon as they were available, bought 50 more and planted around our yard. Just as before, almost all have bloomed, as well as those from last year. I don't know about a "mix" since all of the blooms are purple but that's not an issue for us because they certainly have brightened an otherwise dull landscape."

Only purple

"All the bulbs that bloom are purple. No white or other colors. Where is the mix?"

Wow!!

"I ordered 1 package but now I wish I ordered more. They were sprouting when I received and planted them on 10/10. On 10/31 they were 6" tall with amazing blooms. It was supposed to be a variety but only 1 kind was received. Not complaining! I wish I knew which variety so I could order loads more."

They bloomed in the spring...we'll see if they bloom again in the fall.

"I planted them as soon as I got them in the fall last year and they bloomed beautifully in the spring. I'm curious to see if they will bloom again this fall."

Simply Magical

"I think I first purchased these 3 or 4 years ago. I had no idea there was such a thing as fall crocuses. I planted them and they came up within a few weeks. They have come back year after year and I always enjoy them. I've ordered them once or twice more just so I would have more in more parts of my yard. It is so nice to have a perennial like this that blooms in the fall."

Lovely little gems to add fall colors

"I ordered a bag of 25 of these fall-blooming crocuses in late August in 2019, and they were delivered at the beginning of October 2019. All 25 bulbs looked firm and in good condition. Per instruction, I planted them right away. In a little over one week, I started seeing little shoots coming up through the mulch. Today, 13 days after planting, I saw the first two blooms! There are even some bulbs bearing more than one flower shoot in this mix. I'm delighted to see these cute little crocuses at this time of the year when other perennials start to dwindle down. I'm looking forward to seeing the bloom from the rest of the numerous flower shoots in this flower bed, and I plan to order many more of them next year for my other flower beds. Thank you White Flower Farm for such a wonderful product! As always, you folks deliver!"

BEAUTIFUL LITTLE CROCUS SPRING SURPRISE

"My Mother always loved to see the Crocus bloom first in Spring. Her birthday is on March 19th, so very near the Vernal Equinox. Her Mother was always glad to see her birthday come. In any case, one year I planted crocus bulbs out front under a tree by the walkway to the front steps. The next year, when they bloomed, all kinds of beautiful little purple, white and yellow flowers came up, very delicate little things, some white with thin purple veins. And she was both surprised and delighted, as she didn't know I had planted them. This Harbinger of Spring will always be welcome, no matter who you give them to. This year she is 89. The Chinese add nine months to your age, dating you from conception. So she is almost ninety. The Chinese also say, "Every day is your Birthday." In a way, every moment is a Birth moment. So go ahead and splurge, Tomorrow never comes."
