Product Details

Shade gardens don’t have to be boring. Our Cornerstone Astilbe Collection adds vivid color and lovely texture to shady areas. These low-maintenance perennials create a season-long ground cover with clouds of color above feathery green foliage. Because Astilbes look best planted in drifts, we offer a collection of 12 plants at a bargain price, which includes 3 plants of a white variety, 3 plants each of 2 different pink varieties, and 3 plants of a red variety. Our Cornerstone Collection is a great way to start a color parade in your shade garden, one that will continue throughout your lifetime and beyond. 27 sq ft. Exclusive.

Astilbe is a genus of rugged and beautiful plants for part shade that throw lovely flower spikes above Fern-like foliage in summer. Use them in groups in the woodland border, or mass them to create a ground cover. Bloom varies by variety from mid-June to the end of August; with careful selection, the display can be sustained through most of summer. In evenly moist or wet soil, Astilbes are tough, pest-free, and handsome. The only thing they cannot endure is drought. The blooms are useful for cutting if they are picked when half open.

Shipping Info

We want our customers to receive strong, healthy plants that are ready to thrive in their gardens and homes. Here's what we'd like you to know about our shipping practices.

Delivery Timing

We aim to deliver your plants at as close to the proper time for planting in your area as possible. To do so, we consider the USDA Hardiness Zone to which we're shipping, current and forecasted weather at the destination and along the shipping route, and whether your plants are ready for transplant.

In spring, we ship first to the warmest regions and move north as planting conditions improve. For fall deliveries, we begin with the coolest regions and work south. We frequently adjust shipping schedules when extreme weather could put plants at risk while in transit or soon after arrival.

Because different plants reach readiness at different rates and are weather-sensitive in varying degree, a single order may be delivered via multiple shipments. Plants sold as part of a collection, or that are otherwise meant to arrive together, will be shipped together. Please contact our customer service team with two weeks' advance notice if you anticipate being away at the expected time of delivery

Tracking information for each package is delivered via email.

Plant & Container Sizes

We deliver plants in various sizes and stages of growth, and the product detail pages of our website indicate the form and/or pot size in which the plant will be delivered. Pot sizes range from 1 pint to 1 gallon and larger. Many perennials, roses, shrubs and vines are delivered bareroot - that is, not in a container at all. Bulbs and tubers are generally delivered bareroot and fully dormant. We choose container sizes and delivery methods based on how each plant grows best, how we can minimize transplant shock, and how to minimize unnecessary bulk/weight in shipment.

Caring for Your Plants Upon Arrival

It is important to acclimate greenhouse-grown plants to life outdoors. All plant shipments include simple instructions for handling your plants upon arrival. Further how-to information, including planting instructions, is available on each plant's product page.

Toxic berries

"The Coralberry plant arrived as a gift in excellent condition with beautiful coral colored berries. It even had a disposable warmer pack to keep its roots warm en route! As a native plant gardener, I googled it since I had never seen this plant before. As noted in the description, if planted outdoors, it is considered an INVASIVE plant; not noted, however, is it is not native to North America AND the berries are considered toxic to pets, livestock and humans. I have a dog. Too bad. Maybe WFF shouldn't be selling this plant?"

Newbie

"Newbie gardener this year, great success, they all came up. I lost two little ones to rabbits eating the leaves off them (the bunnies are insane in this town) but the rest have popped up and are starting to set up some flowers. They're on the small side but looking forward to seeing how they get in a few years! Very easy to plant, bareroot doesn't seem like it should work but voila, it did!"

Nice collection, long lasting color!

"My mom gifted me this collection when we moved into our new home. It's the first time I've had some garden space, and am definitely a novice gardener. This is a lovely, ready-made collection and the blooms lasted the whole back half of the summer, even the first year we had it in. This is our second season with it and it's filled out nicely, poised to look even better than last year. I highly recommend this collection. Our only issue was that the Hemerocallis 'Hyperion' plants didn't come up. WFF has excellent customer service and they pro rated a credit for those plants. I was very impressed with WFF all around and have since bought many (many!) more plants from them."

Exceptional

"Purchased three sets in 2021. Planted late, in a shallow ditch created by removing a railroad tie. Dumped a good compost/soil mix on top. Low effort due to time constraints. Every single astilbe came up. Glorious. Currently moving the plants all over my property."

Jasmine in Barnsley Bowl

"My jasmine arrived in perfect condition last week, and is thriving in the location I chose based on the WFF "caring for jasmine" instructions. Can't wait for it to start blooming! PS - Love the Barnsley Bowl !!!"

Norfolk Island Pine trees

"Have been purchasing these beautiful trees from White Flower Farm for several years now. They arrive excellently packed. At one time I had about 10 trees, all different sizes. Some had to be outdoors due to growth, just brought them inside for winter. Graceful, little care, everyone loves them. Thank you for making them available."

Successful First Time With Bareroot Astilbe

"All 12 astilbe from this collection sprouted within two weeks of planting. Now, four weeks later, they’re all 5-14 inches high and one plant even has a tiny bloom. Very pleased at the price and these lovely plants."

Damaged plant

"This is a beautiful plant and pot, but saddened to see upon its arrival it seemed to be somewhat cold and probably had frost nip to it. It should have been packed a bit better it may have also sat in the delivery truck and chilled too much. The customer service dept at White Flower Farms is awesome, and I received either refund or store credit. I'll be taking the store credit! Love this company just had an unfortunate oops."
