In response to concerns from some of our customers, we have spent a great deal of time fine-tuning our shipping methods. Instead of shipping out a portion of our plants in late fall to get ahead of the cold weather, we are holding them back and allowing the buds to grow a little larger while keeping a close eye on the weather conditions. Our goal is for all of our customers to enjoy the white star-shaped blossoms and wonderful fragrance in their homes or offices.

For long bloom, Jasmine prefer cooler temperatures and bright indirect light. Make sure to water your Jasmine when only the top half inch of soil is dry.

Jasminum polyanthum is a handsome, subtropical vine whose dark green leaves provide a perfect backdrop for its January display of elegant and exquisitely fragrant white flowers. This is the perfume of the tropics, a rich, sweet scent that will fill a house or lightly carry through a southern garden. Perennial in Zones 9–10.

Delivery Timing

We aim to deliver your plants at as close to the proper time for planting in your area as possible. To do so, we consider the USDA Hardiness Zone to which we're shipping, current and forecasted weather at the destination and along the shipping route, and whether your plants are ready for transplant.

In spring, we ship first to the warmest regions and move north as planting conditions improve. For fall deliveries, we begin with the coolest regions and work south. We frequently adjust shipping schedules when extreme weather could put plants at risk while in transit or soon after arrival.

Because different plants reach readiness at different rates and are weather-sensitive in varying degree, a single order may be delivered via multiple shipments. Plants sold as part of a collection, or that are otherwise meant to arrive together, will be shipped together. Please contact our customer service team with two weeks' advance notice if you anticipate being away at the expected time of delivery.

Plant & Container Sizes

We deliver plants in various sizes and stages of growth, and the product detail pages of our website indicate the form and/or pot size in which the plant will be delivered. Pot sizes range from 1 pint to 1 gallon and larger. Many perennials, roses, shrubs and vines are delivered bareroot - that is, not in a container at all. Bulbs and tubers are generally delivered bareroot and fully dormant. We choose container sizes and delivery methods based on how each plant grows best, how we can minimize transplant shock, and how to minimize unnecessary bulk/weight in shipment.

Caring for Your Plants Upon Arrival

It is important to acclimate greenhouse-grown plants to life outdoors. All plant shipments include simple instructions for handling your plants upon arrival. Further how-to information, including planting instructions, is available on each plant's product page.

For prolonged bloom, Jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum) plants prefer cool temperatures but will produce flowers and grow at average home temperatures. Bright indirect light is preferred, with little or no direct sun hitting the plant. (Flowers will open too quickly in direct sun). For best results avoid heat sources.

Watering: Water only when the top half inch of the potting mix is dry to the touch; Jasmine won't tolerate soggy potting mix. If these conditions are met, flowering generally begins in late January or early February.

Jasmines are also sensitive to the dryness created by radiators, hot-air vents, and wood-burning stoves. Here are some ways to increase the humidity around your plants:

• Run a humidifier nearby.
• Set plants in trays filled with pebbles or gravel. Add water to a level just below the tops of the pebbles (if the potting mix in the pots comes in contact with the water, the mix will draw water into the pot, which will cause the mix to become saturated, eventually leading to rot). Refill trays frequently to replace water lost through evaporation.

After your plant blooms:  

• When the danger of frost has passed, we recommend that you set the plant outdoors for the summer, shifting it gradually from a shady spot to full sun.
• Fertilize every 2-4 weeks during the growing season -- generally from early spring to early fall. Withhold fertilizer entirely during fall and winter, when the plant is resting. Use a water-soluble fertilizer designed for houseplants mixed at just half the rate suggested by the manufacturer. As with watering, plants suffer if overfertilized.
• Prune as necessary to control size or to maintain shape, but stop pruning by August 1, because the plant sets flower buds in late summer.
• To encourage the formation of flower buds for next winter, be sure your plant experiences the cooler temperatures and shorter days of early autumn. The plant needs 4-5 weeks of nighttime temperatures between 40 and 50°F, plenty of sunlight, and the complete absence of artificial light after sundown. Bring the plant indoors before frost. Then give it cool temperatures and indirect light until it blooms again in late winter.
