Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop'

We've considered the airy flower heads of Verbena bonariensis a staple in our nursery beds since we first began growing it in the late 1990s. So finding 'Lollipop'—a shorter-growing form of the species with dense clusters of lighter lavender blooms—was a welcome addition. We love it planted alongside the woolly, silver foliage of Stachys byzantina 'Big Ears,' paired with pink-flowering annuals in containers, or set at the front of a border. Plants provide a valuable mid- to late-season source of nectar for butterflies and other pollinators.

We categorize this plant as an 'Annual' because it does not survive winter here in our Zone 6 location in Connecticut, so we enjoy a single season display. This plant is truly a tender perennial and will return year after year in warmer areas of the country, perennial for Zones 7 to 11.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
