Evergreen trees and shrubs provide year-round green foliage. They offer winter interest in the garden and can be a backdrop during the growing season for other plantings. Evergreens can be coniferous, with needle-like foliage (think of an Arborvitae), or broad-leaf with wider foliage (think of a Rhododendron).
