False Sunflower
Create spots of dazzling sunshine in your garden with the abundant, radiant blooms of carefree False Sunflower (Heliopsis). This genus of North American natives includes plants that flower nonstop from late spring to fall in shades ranging from clear, bright yellow to spicy orange. The plants and their flowers are manageably sized in comparison to classic cornfield-size Common Sunflowers, but they capture and convey the same spirit. Many varieties are sized for the middle or back of the border, rising roughly 3-4’, but compact cultivars are also available, providing an option for the edge of the border. Try Heliopsis with other prairie-style plants including Ornamental Grasses, Heleniums, and Coneflowers (Echinacea).
