Trout Lily

The broad leaves of some species are attractively mottled, like a trout, hence the common name. The bulbs are easily grown in partial shade in rich and woodsy soil, such as under deciduous shrubs and trees or where low light levels make the grass thin. Don't let them dry out in summer while dormant, or drown in winter, and you'’ll be rewarded each spring with delicate six-petaled blooms nodding gracefully on slender stems.
