New varieties of the Brazilian native Schlumbergera truncata offer a widening range of colors and flower forms. 'Polka Dancer' is a lovely case in point. She sports distinctive purple-pink flowers that appear in profusion against a background of unusual lime green foliage. Holiday Cactus is easy to grow and tolerant of low light conditions. This beauty is a bright beacon on drab winter days. Shipped in a 6½" wide x 6" tall cream cachepot.

Please note: This is a different species than the true Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera x buckleyi).

WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature

In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call our customer service staff at 1-800-411-6159.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-503-9624 or email us at [email protected]. Please include your order number or customer number when contacting us.

Good shipping to AZ

So my best gal pal retired to Arizona this year. Wanted to send her something to remind her of me, her Polish friend. This plant was perfect! Fast shipping and the shipping made it around the Midwest snowstorms on it's way to AZ. Her note to me said " I absolutely love these! I had one long ago and was very surprised to get one today! " I also stumbled on the growing guide on-line which is a really great idea. Thanks for a good first experience ordering from White Flower Farm.

Beautiful!

Bought the cactus as a birthday gift for a good friend of mine in Florida. I was a little worried about it being shipped in November and how it would fair the travel from Connecticut, but it did really well and when it arrived it even had 20 or so buds getting ready to bloom. She is absolutely in love with it. I am extremely satisfied and will return for more flowers in the future.

Also known as the Thanksgiving or Crab Cactus, this easy-to-care for plant is native to rainforests of Brazil, where it grows on rocks or in trees in light shade. It's an easy houseplant and can spend the warmer months of the year outside.

LIGHT: Provide partial shade or bright indirect light. During the winter months, when the sun is not as strong, more sunlight is acceptable. Too much sun can burn the leaves or turn them yellow.

WATERING: Water when the potting mix is dry 1 inch below the surface. Avoid over watering (which will cause the roots to rot) or letting the potting mix dry out completely. Provide less water from fall through spring.

TEMPERATURE: When plants are in active growth (April to September), provide temperatures between 60-80°F. Sudden changes in temperature may cause buds and flowers to fall off.

FERTILIZER: When plants are in active growth (April to September) apply a balanced (20-20-20) houseplant fertilizer monthly, diluted to 1/4-strength.

CONTINUING CARE: During the shorter days (and longer nights) of fall, the Holiday Cactus forms its flower buds. For a period of about 8 weeks, plants should be kept in the dark 13-14 hours a day and given night-time temperatures of 55-65°F and daytime temperatures of 65-70°F.

Plants bloom best when pot-bound. Repot every 3 years or so using a well-drained potting mix designed for houseplants and a container that is about an inch wider than the previous one.
