Growing Arisaema
Latin Name Pronunciation: a-ris-ee'muh
CULTURE: Hardiness zones 5-9S/W. Height 18-24". Space 18-24" apart. Plant in partially shaded site in neutral to acid soil, moist woodland soil, or well-drained soil amended with well-rotted leaves, compost, or other organic matter such as peat moss. Morning sun is okay but not the afternoon sun. Adding 1" of compost or humus to the area each spring is all the fertilizing that it needs. Plant the top of the tuber with the slightly pointed end up about 1-2" deep. Can multiply quickly under good growing conditions as it often self-sows.
SUGGESTED USE: In woodland or shady gardens.
PROBLEMS: Few insect or disease problems if grown in well-drained soil.
