Many gardens include areas of particularly moisture-retentive soils, or spots that stay wet in a particular season. These areas can be tricky to successfully fill – what’s needed is a plant community that’s tolerant of high moisture levels (and even short stretches of standing water) but won’t suffer in an intervening dry spell. This collection gathers five Eastern native species (including cultivars thereof) that not only exhibit this desirable adaptability but also support pollinators and look terrific all the while. Total of 5 plants, one of each listed below. Covers approximately 45 sq ft.

  • Eutrochium dubium 'Baby Joe' (PP 20,320) - A shorter selection of our native Joe Pye Weed. A favorite of butterflies, but not of deer.
  • Pycnanthemum muticum - Blunt Mountain Mint is beautiful, aromatic, and a bee magnet like few others. It’s a spreader, like all mints, but we find it easily managed.
  • Monarda 'Raspberry Wine' - Monarda is also in the mint family and will spread, but we welcome the cherry magenta flowers of ‘Raspberry Wine’ and the pollinators (including hummingbirds) that they attract.
  • Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah' - An especially ornamental selection of our native Switch Grass, with foliage that goes wine red late in the season.
  • Hibiscus 'Marshmallow Moon' - One of our favorite Rose Mallows, with clear white flowers that continue into early fall. Hibiscus are notoriously slow to break dormancy in the spring so don’t be concerned if it appears to be lagging its neighbors – it will catch up quickly when the weather warms.

Shipping
Every state has agricultural regulations that restrict the shipment of certain plants. We're sorry, but we cannot ship this item to the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.
