Made in Canada from sustainably sourced Canadian Spruce, this sturdy, back-saving elevated planter is fitted with four powder-coated aluminum legs that resist rust, casters to allow for easy rolling (two with locks to secure the planter in place), and a 6-gallon self-watering irrigation system that provides steady hydration while reducing the time you spend holding the hose. The planter is designed for a favorite collection of smaller vegetable, herb and flower plants. Its height makes tending and harvesting easy while doing double duty as an obstacle to foraging critters. Please use a proper soil mix made for containers when filling the raised bed, we recommend our Organic Mechanics® Container Blend Potting Soil (55884).

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee to ship plants that are in prime condition for growing. If your order is damaged or fails to meet your expectations, we will cheerfully replace or refund it. Poorly designed; hoping for resolution with customer service

A viewer from Iowa

We bought this planter in 2021, and I was so pleased with it for the first season. The "bobber" that indicates the water level was not always reliable, but overall, the container worked great and we grew beautiful herbs, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I was looking forward to more of the same in 2022, and for most of the season it worked well; however, by the end of the season I noticed that the bottom of the water reservoir was beginning to sag in one corner. I became much more cautious about watering it, not wanting to put too much strain on it. Unfortunately, after a very heavy rainfall, the extra water weight caused the bottom of the planter box to collapse completely. Everything that was supposed to be contained within the frame of the planter box fell through to my deck, and it was a huge mess to clean up.

I'm quick to assume user error, so at the beginning of the season this year, I very carefully re-assembled the planter. The water reservoir was still not perfectly square - that one corner was still a little droopy - but I hoped it would hold. I planted spinach and lettuce and barely used the "self-watering" feature at all, since I was so worried that the design of the planter would not be able to support the water weight. Sure enough, we have another really heavy storm tonight, and once again the bottom has fallen out. I'll have another big mess to clean up tomorrow - and now I know this is not user error.

This planter box looks great, but it is badly designed. The water reservoir and planter itself rest on very narrow metal rails inside the wooden frame, and these do not provide adequate structural support for the combined weight of the water reservoir, the soil, and the plants. If you accidentally overwater or if you have a heavy rainfall, the whole thing will collapse.

I'm going to connect with customer service to see what can be done. In the meantime, buyer beware!

A worthwhile investment

Kathleen Florio from Bellevue, WA

I hesitated a bit before buying this planter because of the cost, but it's proved to be an excellent investment. The vegetables we've grown in it--spinach, lettuce, and green beans--have thrived. The soil stays moist by pouring water into the funnel every four or five days, so there's no need for overhead watering. I love the fact that it can be easily moved; I move it around as the sun exposure on our partially shaded patio changes from one week to the next. And the height is ideal for stand-up gardening. The fact that it's good-looking is an additional plus!

Finally, bonus points for the manufacturer: When we found that a small end-cap piece was missing, they responded promptly to our e-mail inquiry and shipped a replacement at no charge.

Solid and well built container

A viewer from Northern Virginia

This is a very well built container and looks great on the deck. Currently used for vegetables (cherry tomatoes, peppers, and herbs with a touch of marigolds for pest control.) Has a very nice planting depth. Used about 6 bags (20qt each) of potting mix to fill. Easy to roll. Was challenging to assemble - took two of us to align the boards and put in the screws. The finishing corner caps don't stay on very well. Otherwise a very nice looking, solidly made container. I expect it to last quite a few years.
