Product Details
Stromanthe ‘Triostar’ is at its most colorful - cream and pink variegation over olive green leaves - in bright indirect light. Its pink stems bear elongated arching leaves with rosy-red undersides that are displayed when they fold up at night. ‘Triostar’ rarely blooms indoors, but may produce white flowers when grown in a greenhouse or outdoors in Zones 10-12. Also known in the trade as S. 'Tristar' and S. 'Tricolor.'
Stromanthe is a small genus of evergreen perennials native to the tropical regions of Central and South America. As members of the Marantaceae family, these plants share the characteristic of moving their leaves in response to light and folding up at night, although they should not be mistaken for true Prayer Plants of the Maranta genus. Stromanthe’s variegated, highly ornamental foliage and air-purifying qualities make it a standout choice as a houseplant. It grows best in humid environments and is mildly toxic to pets if ingested.

WEATHER PERMITTING - Working with Mother Nature
In our business, we work closely with Mother Nature. In the colder months when we stipulate that an item is shipped “weather permitting”, that means temperatures outside our shipping facility in northwestern Connecticut and along the shipping route must be warm enough for tender plants to survive in unheated delivery trucks. Our practice of waiting for windows of milder weather may result in the occasional delay, but our customers tend to appreciate the care we take to make certain their plants arrive in the very best possible condition. Questions? Don’t hesitate to call our customer service staff at 1-800-411-6159.HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED
The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.
WHEN WE SHIP

We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Growing guide
Latin Name Pronunciation: stroe-man' thee
Stromanthe is a genus in the Maranta family that is native to tropical rainforests in Mexico and Central and South America. Plants require exceptional humidity and can be temperamental if humidity or light is inadequate. Plants are mildly toxic to pets if ingested.
Light: Stromanthe leaves are most colorful when exposed to bright indirect light. Position plants near an east- or north-facing window or in a brightly lit room away from direct sunlight, which can burn leaves. If grown outdoors in summer, locate in partial to full shade.
Watering: When soil feels dry to the touch just ½” below the surface, water thoroughly using tepid water. It is best to not let soil dry out. Leaf tips and edges may brown and curl with inadequate water; if this happens, just snip off any unsightly leaves and new ones will grow.
Temperature: Stromanthe prefers warmth and grows well in typical household temperature ranges above 50°F. Avoid cold drafts.
Fertilizer: Apply a balanced (18-18-18), water-soluble houseplant fertilizer, diluted to half strength, once a month during the growing season (generally April into September). Withhold fertilizer in fall and winter when most plants rest.
Humidity: Stromanthe requires exceptional humidity and is best grown near a steamy shower or a humidifier; additionally, grouping plants together is helpful.
