Every cutting garden and sunny border should have Bracteantha Granvia® Crimson Sun. This Strawflower sends up slender stems topped with generously sized flowers, the papery petals a hot shade of red accented by high-contrast yellow centers. The showy blooms are a splendid accent amid golden Rudbeckias, Coleus ‘Vulcan,’ and many other mixers in the border and are also superb for cutting and drying for use in dried flower arrangements. Cut and dry even a few and all winter you’ll have a colorful reminder of the glories of the summer garden.

The genus Bracteantha is also known as Xerochrysum and Helichrysum, and is in the Daisy family (Asteraceae). It is a short-lived, tender perennial that is native to Australia and grown here as an annual. It flowers from late spring until frost. Its common name of Strawflower—or Everlasting Flower—is in reference to its petal-like bracts that have a straw-like texture. It makes a good, long-lasting cut flower and flowers are superb for cutting and drying, often commercially grown for this purpose. Once established, plants tolerate heat, humidity, and drought. Plants self-seed in frost-free climates but most cultivars will not come true from seed. Perennial in Zones 8-10.

HOW PLANTS ARE SHIPPED

The size of the plants we ship has been selected to reduce the shock of transplanting. For some, this means a large, bareroot crown. Others cannot travel bareroot or transplant best if grown in containers. We ship these perennials and annuals in 1 pint pots, except as noted. We must point out that many perennials will not bloom the first year after planting, but will the following year, amply rewarding your patience. We ship bulbs as dormant, bare bulbs, sometimes with some wood shavings or moss. Shrubs, Roses, vines, and other woody plants may be shipped bareroot or in pots. The size of the pot is noted in the quick facts for each item.

WHEN WE SHIP

We ship our bulbs and plants at the right time for planting in your area, except as noted, with orders dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis by climate zone. We also ship a wide range of containers and planters, tools, supplies, fertilizers, garden wear, garden decor items, as well as indoor decorations like wreaths and dried bouquets when available. Estimated dates for shipping are indicated in the green Shipping Details box for each item. Please supply a street address for delivery. Kindly contact us with two weeks notice, if you'll be away at the expected time of delivery.

OUR GUARANTEE

Bracteantha is also known as Xerochrysum and Helichrysum and is in the Daisy family (Asteraceae). It is a short-lived, tender perennial that is native to Australia and grown here as an annual. It flowers from late spring until frost. Its common name of Strawflower—or Everlasting Flower—is in reference to its petal-like bracts that have a straw-like texture.

Plant in full sun and average to dry, well-drained soil. Once established, plants tolerate heat, humidity, and drought. Plants can be pinched when young to promote more branching and more flowering, and deadheading will cause the plant to keep producing flowers. Makes a good, long-lasting cut flower and flowers are superb for cutting and drying, often commercially grown for this purpose (if you do plan on drying them, cut them when the orange centers are just visible but not fully revealed. The blossoms will continue to open as they dry. Hang the flowers upside down for a few days until the stems are firm and dry.) Plants self-seed in frost-free climates but most cultivars will not come true from seed. Taller varieties may need staking. No serious insect or disease problems. Deer-resistant. Perennial in Zones 8-10.
